I am not talking about a backlink that just has the websites url as the link, I am talking about a “backlink” that doesn’t have a link at all associated with the website in question. If you go to www.backlinkwatch.com and type the name of a website a lot of those links that come up have no anchor text associated with the links and when you click on the link I cannot find the url link either. This makes me wonder why they are saying there is a backlink there in the first place (an example would be www.dgelectrical.com). Can anyone tell me if this would actually help this website in the page rankings for a search engine and why these are considered backlinks at all? Thanks.

Yup! Those are outdated back links which are not helpful for Search Engine Rankings.
Hi
If you have you link on a website which is too strong for traffic then sure you will get the benefits from that link. Only a single drawback of not using the keyword you will not get the weight for your targeted keyword for that URL.

There is no actual fact about what variables are being taken into consideration by search engines. There are some claims though that backlinks with no anchor text would help. To learn more, you can visit this site.
Those aren’t backlinks, those are outdated links. They’ve been removed and sent to the website’s archives.
Some links that have gone away may still exist in old databases a backlink checker may rely on.
A domain name that has no live clickable link is probably not a search ranking factor, but if someone typed it into a forum post, etc. it’s a popularity indicator worth mentioning.
Lots of backlink checkers went away since Yahoo stopped providing such data, Open Site Explorer is a good alternative.
As far as keyword anchor text links, these should be a minor percentage of the total link profile in order to appear ‘natural’ to the search engines. There was a story fo the marketing guru John Chow instructing hos followers to all link to hos blog using the same anchor text, he apparently vanished from search results for a time, the clone log John Cow got better rankings for a while.
