Hello,
I have registered a domain and a hosting for my domain www.vertumate.com. I am going to create a small social network on vertumate.com. It will be custom designed so it will take around 2 months to complete. I have installed a blog on subdirectory of domain that is www.vertumate.com/magazine so my writers would be blogging on www.vertumate.com/magazine and i will do a heavy seo on www.vertumate.com/magazine on my subdirectory but my main domain will be under construction for 2 months so will my subfolder and all its inner pages will rank well in google? Suppose i start blogging on www.vertumate.com/magazine so will my sub directory will rank well in google, yahoo or bing or do my homepage need to optimized first for getting subdirectory in ranking?

Yes you should be fine. Just set up a sitemap on your subdomain and submit it. You might want to also place a simple homepage with some descriptive text including your keywords so the process can get started on your home page as well. Place some links to your blog page
